Logan Memorial Hospital Earns 5-Star Rating for Patient Experience

Logan Memorial Hospital today announced that it has been awarded five stars in patient experience ratings recently released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  Derived from Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys collected throughout 2019, these star ratings are designed to help patients choose a hospital based on patient experience. Only 266 of the more than 3,400 hospitals rated received a 5-star rating, the highest possible score.

HCAHPS surveys are administered to a random sample of adult patients between two days and six weeks following their discharge from the hospital.  The surveys cover a range of patient experience topics including nurse and doctor communication, responsiveness of hospital staff, communication about medicines, care transitions, and the hospital environment. 

Logan Memorial Hospital has launched several initiatives in recent years aimed at enhancing patient and family experiences. “At LMH our goal is to keep patients and families at the forefront through maintaining a respectful partnership while providing high quality care,” said Tanya Nelson-Hackney, chief nursing officer of Logan Memorial Hospital.  “This partnership includes a focus on enhancing patient care through hourly rounding, bed side shift report, and leader rounding.  Our interdisciplinary leadership council facilitates our focus on evidence based care and preventing hospital acquired conditions/harms in a collaborative environment managing our ongoing work to ensure we remain focused on providing an excellent patient and family experience.”
