Logan Memorial Hospital Names 2021 Mercy Award Winner
May 21, 2021
Russellville, KY (May 21, 2021) – Logan Memorial Hospital recently announced that Derrick Scoggins has been recognized as the hospital’s 2021 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.
“At Logan Memorial Hospital, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said David Brash, CEO of Logan Memorial Hospital. “We are extremely proud to recognize Derrick for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. He goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”
Derrick has dedicated his life to caring for others, and has worked tirelessly to grow and provide the best care he can to those around him, both in the hospital and in the community. After his father was in a near-fatal accident and experiencing first-hand the importance of world class healthcare, Derrick pursued a career as an EMT, and immediately continued with his education to be a registered nurse. Derrick started at Logan Memorial Hospital in 2018 as an emergency room staff nurse after graduating from Western Kentucky University. Since then, he has gained experience and broadened his skills serving in ICU and as a nurse supervisor. Most recently Derrick has completed his nurse practitioner degree and hopes to practice in Logan County to serve his community. Tanya Nelson-Hackney, CNO of Logan Memorial Hospital said, “I truly appreciate this opportunity to recognize Derrick in receiving the Mercy Award based on his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. Derrick goes above and beyond on a daily basis to support our patients, team and the overall organization working in his primary ED nursing role and also serving as house supervisor and ICU nurse. Derrick’s overall dedication is demonstrated by his thoughtfulness, motivation, and commitment to successfully serve our community in both a personal and professional capacity.” Outside of Logan Memorial Hospital, Derrick is very involved in the community. He is a volunteer firefighter and first responder with the Auburn Fire Department, where in addition to supporting those in medical crisis, he also facilitates food drives and delivers supplies to those in need during the holidays. Derrick serves as Chairman of the Auburn Code Enforcement Board and is an active member at his church hosting youth events and organizing community outreach projects.
Each hospital winner, including Derrick, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2021 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Derrick and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
