Logan Memorial Hospital Names 2023 Monarch Award Winner
September 13, 2023

Russellville, KY (September 13, 2023) – Logan Memorial Hospital recently announced that Sara Montgomery, RN, has been recognized as the hospital’s 2023 Monarch Award winner. The Monarch Award recognizes exceptional, highly-skilled caregivers who consistently go above and beyond to deliver excellent patient care and to elevate the patient experience. They are dedicated to supporting their colleagues and their communities, and in everything they do, they exemplify the values of Logan Memorial’s parent company, ScionHealth: Valuing Every Voice, Showing Courage, and Leaning into New Ideas.
The Monarch Award is an annual recognition program. The regal aspect of the Monarch Award’s name conveys the prestige and honor of ScionHealth’s highest award, while “monarch” and the award’s logo suggest nature and nurturing, with monarch butterflies representing strength, endurance, and transformation. The same can be said for their most outstanding caregivers, who provide comfort and demonstrate extraordinary grace. The Monarch Caring and Community Award evokes a sense of pride, compassion, selflessness, and commitment to doing whatever it takes to support the healing journey of our patients. The Monarch Award recognizes one employee from each of ScionHealth’s 94 hospitals.
“At Logan Memorial Hospital, we share ScionHealth’s purpose to empower the hands that heal to do what they do best,” said Andrew Bedi, CEO of Logan Memorial Hospital. “We are extremely proud to recognize Sara for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. She ensures that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”
Montgomery has worked at Logan Memorial Hospital since 2010 as a Registered Nurse. She started on the Med/Surg floor and then transition to the surgery department in 2012 where she consistently goes above and beyond to deliver excellent patient care daily. Sara said, “Health care for me was a straightforward choice. I truly love to help people. Knowing simple acts of kindness go a long way, drove me toward the field of nursing.” Sara uses a simple motto daily, “Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.” She sees nursing as a combination of skills: teamwork, compassion, good communication and being detailed oriented.
In addition to her role at the hospital, Montgomery is a wife, mother of three daughters, coach, and active member of her church and the community. She has called Logan County home her entire life and is now raising her daughters to appreciate all this community has to offer. An avid sports lover and participant, Montgomery is giving back to Logan County by coaching everything from softball to basketball to soccer. Sara also serves on the Barren River District Board of Health and the Logan County Board of Health where she uses her career and work knowledge to help those organizations thrive. Her compassion and outgoing attitude are put to good use at her church where she teaches Bible studies for kids and brings the fun on Wednesdays as the recreation teacher.
Each hospital winner, including Montgomery, will be considered for Scion Health’s 2023 companywide Monarch Award. The companywide winner will be announced this fall and honored during a ceremony in Louisville, Kentucky, to which Montgomery and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
